Richmond, British Columbia, is bustling with activities this weekend, offering a range of events that cater to families, children, and community members alike. Robotics Workshop for Young Innovators
A free, in-person robotics workshop is set to take place on September 6, 2023, hosted by Moonpreneur. This hands-on event invites children aged 7 to 14 to delve into the fascinating world of robotics and coding through interactive exercises. Families are encouraged to bring a laptop for the one-hour and 15-minute sessions, which are organized by age group. The schedule is as follows:
– 11:00 AM – Ages 7–8
– 1:00 PM – Ages 9–10
– 3:00 PM – Ages 11–12
– 4:45 PM – Ages 13–14
Reservations are required through the Moonpreneur website. The workshop will take place at the Holiday Inn Vancouver Airport, located at 10720 Cambie Rd.
Summer Fair to Support Local Athletes
On September 7, 2023, the Josiah Kicks Academy will host a fundraising summer fair aimed at supporting local taekwondo athletes who will represent British Columbia at the ITF Taekwondo World Championships. The fair will feature martial arts demonstrations, mini-games, food vendors, and local business booths, making it an engaging day for families.
Additionally, there will be kids’ activity stations, a community raffle, and live music performances. The event concludes with an outdoor movie night, providing a perfect family-friendly atmosphere. Tickets are priced at $18 for adults and $14 for children when purchased online via Eventbrite. The fair will run from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM at 11551 Dyke Rd.
Richmond Farm Fest Celebrates Agricultural Heritage
After a six-year hiatus, the Richmond Farm Fest is returning on September 7, 2023, to celebrate the city’s agricultural roots. The festival will take place at the Garden City Lands, located at 5040 Garden City Rd, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Festival highlights include a Farmers and Artisans Market featuring locally grown produce and handmade goods. A culinary demonstration stage, presented by Pursuit Kitchen, will showcase live cooking sessions at noon, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM, where chefs will prepare dishes using fresh, local ingredients. Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle, or take public transport to the event. A free bike and e-scooter valet service will be available, along with free parking at KPU and Richmond City Hall.
Community Appreciation Day in Steveston
The Steveston Community Society is organizing a Community Appreciation Day on September 7, 2023, to celebrate the existing community centre and library before its scheduled closure in December. This event will take place from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Steveston Community Centre and Library, located at 4111 Moncton St.
Activities will include free face painting, family storytime sessions with the library, arts and crafts, and a variety of entertainment options suitable for all ages. The day aims to foster community spirit and encourage residents to engage with local resources.
