Dwight Library Unveils Exciting October Events for All Ages

The Prairie Creek Public Library in Dwight has revealed a diverse lineup of events scheduled for late September and throughout October. All activities are free and open to the public, with no library card required for registration. However, participants must register in advance due to limited spaces.

Upcoming Events Highlighted

The calendar kicks off with the **Shelf Indulgence Book Discussion Group** at **10:00 a.m.** on **September 23**, where adults can engage in a conversation about **“Made in China”** by **Amelia Pang**. On **September 25**, local historian **Dale Maley** will present insights into the remarkable work of **Thomas Googerty**, a master blacksmith from Pontiac, who created the gates for Southside Cemetery and the Catholic cemetery.

The culinary arts take center stage on **September 29** when **Chef Susan** returns to showcase rustic Italian cuisine. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample her recipes, providing both a delicious and interactive experience.

October Festivities and Activities

The month of October will begin with an **Adult/Teen Craft Night** at **6:00 p.m.** on **October 2**. This event invites participants to join in on the TikTok trend of creating ghost paintings. Following this, on **October 3**, film historian **Dr. Annette Bochenek** will discuss the production and legacy of the beloved film **“The Wizard of Oz”** through a multimedia presentation.

On **October 7**, the **Cook the Books Cookbook Club** will meet at **6:00 p.m.** Participants can check out a cookbook, prepare a recipe, and share their culinary creations with the group, focusing on chili this month.

The library will also host a session titled **Using AI to Create Documents** led by **Karen Ferrerro**, a professor at JJC. This workshop will explore how artificial intelligence can assist in crafting essential documents such as cover letters and resumes.

On **October 9**, a **True Crime Discussion** will delve into the complex case of **Pam Hupp**, who orchestrated the conviction of her husband despite his solid alibi. Hupp was later charged with murder and other crimes.

Families can enjoy an outdoor event, **Sports with Dogs**, led by **K9 Connect** at **11:00 a.m.** on **October 10**. This engaging activity is designed for children and their caregivers, with a contingency plan to move indoors in case of inclement weather.

Later that day, at **1:00 p.m.**, teens can participate in **Can You Survive?**, a decision-making activity that tests survival instincts in a fun and interactive way.

In celebration of a day off school, the library will host creative activities on **October 13**. Children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade can engage in spider web watercolor paintings, while teens will work on a pressed metal Renaissance sun project at **10:30 a.m.**
