Engage with February Programs at Plano Public Library
The Plano Public Library is set to host a range of engaging programs for both children and adults throughout February 2024. These activities are designed to foster creativity, learning, and community engagement, catering to various interests and age groups.
Adult Programs Offer Diverse Activities
One of the highlights for adults is the **Writers Group**, which meets from **6:30 to 8 p.m.** on **Thursdays, February 12 and 26**. This group welcomes writers to share and discuss their work, whether in person or via Zoom. There is no registration required, making it accessible for all aspiring authors.
Yoga enthusiasts can join **Yoga with Jen** every Friday from **10:30 to 11:30 a.m.** on **February 13, 20, and 27**. Led by certified instructor **Jen Penn**, these sessions focus on improving mood and reducing stress. Participants can bring their own mats or use one provided by the library, and all skill levels are welcome. Registration is separate for each class, allowing flexibility for attendees.
For those interested in the arts, **Painting with Petite Palette** will take place on **February 9** from **6:30 to 8 p.m.** Participants will create an acrylic on canvas painting under the guidance of an artist from The Petite Palette. This class is open to high school students and adults, with a **$15 fee** due at registration.
Additionally, the **Technology Help Desk** on **February 10** from **noon to 1 p.m.** provides a valuable opportunity for individuals to seek assistance with their technological devices. **Steve Goodwin**, a tech expert, will be available to help with questions regarding computers, cellphones, tablets, or e-readers. No registration is necessary for this drop-in service.
Another community-focused initiative is **New Life for Old Bags**, scheduled for **February 14** from **10:30 a.m. to noon**. Participants will help transform plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. This program is a hands-on way to contribute to social welfare, with no registration required.
Residents can also take advantage of **State Senator Sue Rezin’s** traveling office hours on **February 17** from **12:30 to 2 p.m.** A representative will be available to assist constituents with navigating state or government agency issues.
For those interested in crafts, a **Card Making Class** featuring Triangle Embossed Cards is set for **February 17** from **6:30 to 8 p.m.** Participants will create five handmade cards, with all supplies provided for a **$5 fee** at registration.
Exciting Programs for Kids and Teens
The library also offers a variety of programs specifically designed for children and teens. **Making Music**, led by music teacher **Jessica Ortega**, invites children aged **0-5** to participate in a fun, interactive class on **February 9** from **10:30 to 11:10 a.m.** Registration is required for this engaging session.
**Pizza and Pages**, aimed at students in grades **7-9**, takes place on **February 10** from **5 to 5:45 p.m.** Participants are encouraged to read the same book prior to the meeting, where they will discuss it over pizza. Registration is required for this program.
For younger children, **Hugs and Kisses Storytime** will be held on **February 16** at **10:30 to 11 a.m.** or **6 to 6:30 p.m.** This program celebrates love, friendship, and kindness through stories, music, and crafts. Children aged **3-5** can attend independently, but parents must remain in the Kids’ Library. Registration is also required.
**Rhyme Time**, designed for children from birth to **36 months**, occurs on **Wednesdays, February 11, 18, and 25**, as well as **March 4 and 11**. This lap-sit story time includes action rhymes and songs, emphasizing active adult participation. Registration is required to ensure a spot in this engaging program.
The **Knit and Crochet Group** meets every Monday from **4 to 6 p.m.** in person and every Thursday from **10 a.m. to noon** via Zoom. Both sessions welcome participants of all ages and skill levels, with limited supplies provided for those new to crochet or knitting.
