Former UVic President Appointed CEO of Zayed University

Dr. Kevin Richard Hall, the former president of the University of Victoria (UVic), has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates, effective November 1, 2023. The announcement, made on October 7, highlighted Hall’s extensive background in higher education and international academic leadership.
Zayed University, established in 1998 by the federal government as an all-women’s institution, has evolved into a co-educational university known for its emphasis on producing bilingual graduates proficient in both Arabic and English. The institution also focuses on developing technological literacy, research skills, and global awareness among its students. In the latest 2025 QS World University Rankings, Zayed University is ranked in the 621-630 band globally and holds the 20th position in the QS Arab Region University Rankings.
In his statement regarding the new role, Dr. Hall expressed his excitement, stating he is “deeply honoured to serve as President and CEO” of an institution with a “proud legacy and a bold vision for the future.” His appointment comes at a time when Zayed University is experiencing significant growth; the university welcomed its largest-ever student intake for the 2025/2026 academic year, with a total of 2,949 students enrolled across its campuses in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
During his tenure at UVic, which concluded on August 1, 2023, Dr. Hall navigated multiple challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and fluctuations in international student enrollment. He played a crucial role in renewing the university’s strategic plan and establishing the vice-president of Indigenous role. Furthermore, he expanded global engagement initiatives, reflecting his commitment to enhancing the university’s international presence.
Dr. Hall’s total compensation at UVic for the fiscal year 2024-2025 was reported at $546,644. His leadership style and experience in research-driven universities are expected to contribute significantly to Zayed University’s ongoing mission of academic excellence and innovation in education.
As he transitions to this new position, the academic community will be watching closely to see how Dr. Hall’s vision aligns with Zayed University’s goals for the future. His extensive background and proven leadership in higher education make him a promising addition to the university’s leadership team.
