Green Acres Students Brighten Christmas for Local Families
Grade 5 and 6 students from Green Acres School actively participated in spreading holiday cheer by packing bags of candy for Christmas hampers at the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry on Rosser Avenue and Seventh Street. This heartfelt initiative took place on Tuesday afternoon and aims to support families in need during the festive season.
This year, the registry reports a significant increase in demand, with 1,710 families registered for Christmas hampers, up from 1,551 last year. In response to this growing need, the registry is appealing for nearly 200 individuals or groups to adopt families and provide hampers that match the provisions offered by the registry.
Individuals interested in participating can sign up through the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer website, where they will receive a list of items to purchase to fill their hampers. This initiative not only provides essential goods to those in need but also fosters community spirit and engagement.
Volunteers Needed for Delivery
In addition to those adopting families, the registry is actively seeking volunteers to assist in delivering hampers across the city on December 17 and 18. Volunteer efforts began on November 27, focusing on packing hampers to ensure timely distribution.
Local leaders, including Brandon Mayor Jeff Fawcett, joined students and community members in this effort, lending their hands to fill hampers for families in need. This collaborative approach highlights the importance of community support during the holiday season.
The Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry remains committed to ensuring that every family experiences the joy of Christmas. By adopting a family or volunteering, community members can make a tangible difference in the lives of their neighbors this holiday season.
