Grundy Area Vocational Center Launches Aviation Program for Students
The Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) is set to introduce a new aviation program for students, following a partnership with the City of Morris, Morris Municipal Airport, and D14 Aviation. This initiative, announced on March 15, 2024, aims to provide high school students with essential skills in the aviation sector.
Through this collaboration, students will benefit from a comprehensive curriculum that covers various aspects of aviation, including aeronautics, aviation maintenance, and flight science. The program is designed to align with career pathways in the aerospace industry, giving students valuable insights and experience in a high-demand field.
Lance Copes, Director of Grundy Area Vocational Center, emphasized the program’s importance, stating, “Our goal has always been to give students a competitive edge in today’s workforce. This partnership allows us to expand into a high-demand field and offer students direct exposure to aviation careers, right here in our community.”
The partnership with the Morris Municipal Airport and the City of Morris will enable students to engage in real-world learning experiences. Participants will have opportunities to interact with aviation professionals, observe airport operations, and take part in hands-on training. These experiences could potentially lead to certifications and further educational opportunities after graduation.
Morris Mayor Chris Brown expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its role in the community’s future. “We’re proud to support this initiative that not only invests in the future of our students but also aligns with the continued growth and development of Morris Municipal Airport and the regional economy,” he stated.
Details regarding program enrollment, curriculum specifics, and informational sessions will be unveiled in the coming months. Interested individuals can find more information by visiting www.gavc-il.org or the Grundy Area Vocational Center’s Facebook page.
This new aviation program marks a significant step forward for GAVC, reinforcing its commitment to providing students with relevant skills and knowledge that will prepare them for successful careers in the aviation industry.
