Grundy Area Vocational Center Launches New Aviation Program
The Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) has announced an exciting new initiative that will allow high school students to embark on a journey into the aviation sector. The partnership, formed with the City of Morris, Morris Municipal Airport, and D14 Aviation, aims to introduce a comprehensive class focused on various aspects of aviation. This new program was officially revealed on Friday, marking a significant step toward enhancing educational opportunities within the community.
Through this program, students will gain access to a curriculum that encompasses aeronautics, aviation maintenance, flight science, and various career pathways within the aerospace industry. According to Lance Copes, Director of GAVC, the initiative aims to equip students with a competitive edge in the workforce. “Our goal has always been to give students a competitive edge in today’s workforce. This partnership allows us to expand into a high-demand field and offer students direct exposure to aviation careers, right here in our community,” he stated.
Real-World Learning Opportunities
The collaboration with Morris Municipal Airport and the City of Morris will provide students with invaluable real-world experiences in an active aviation environment. Participants will have the chance to interact with aviation professionals, observe airport operations, and engage in hands-on training. This practical experience could lead to certifications and further educational opportunities following high school graduation.
Morris Mayor Chris Brown expressed support for the new program, emphasizing its importance for both students and the local economy. “We’re proud to support this initiative that not only invests in the future of our students but also aligns with the continued growth and development of Morris Municipal Airport and the regional economy,” he said.
As the program develops, further information regarding enrollment, curriculum specifics, and informational sessions will be made available in the coming months. Interested individuals can keep up to date by visiting the official GAVC website at www.gavc-il.org or the Grundy Area Vocational Center’s Facebook page.
This initiative represents a promising opportunity for students in the region, preparing them for careers in a vital and expanding industry.
