Illinois Valley Community College Presents Hegeler-Carus Mansion History
Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) will host a presentation on the history of the Hegeler-Carus Mansion on March 5, 2024, at noon. The event will take place at the Jacobs Library within the C-201 Active Learning Space, featuring insights from Anne Pesola, the education and outreach coordinator at IVCC.
The Hegeler-Carus Mansion, located in La Salle, Illinois, was designed by renowned architect W.W. Boyington and constructed in 1876. The mansion is celebrated for its architectural beauty and the notable families who inhabited it across generations. With seven levels and 57 rooms, the mansion has served as a backdrop for significant advancements in various fields, including industry, philosophy, publishing, and religion.
Exhibition and Community Engagement
Visitors to the presentation will also have the opportunity to view a dedicated display about the Hegeler-Carus Mansion at the library. This exhibit will showcase related books from the library’s extensive collections, providing deeper insight into the mansion’s historical and cultural significance.
The event is open to both IVCC students and members of the local community. Attendees are encouraged to explore the connections between the mansion’s rich history and its impact on the surrounding area. For further details on upcoming events and exhibitions, individuals can visit the library’s website at https://libguides.ivcc.edu/library.
By engaging with the past, IVCC aims to foster a greater appreciation for local history and its relevance to contemporary society. The presentation promises to be an informative experience for anyone interested in the architectural and cultural heritage of the region.
