Kingston Schools Secure Following Local Break-In Incident
On the morning of March 4, 2024, three schools in Kingston were placed in a hold and secure status due to a reported break and enter in the vicinity of Alfred Crescent and Barbara Avenue. This precautionary measure was enacted by the Kingston Police shortly after receiving the call at approximately 10:15 a.m..
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered that two suspects had already fled the scene on foot. In response, Kingston Secondary School, Regiopolis Notre-Dame Catholic High School, and Molly Brant Elementary School were all secured to ensure the safety of students and staff while a thorough search of the area was conducted.
Police Investigation Ongoing
According to the Kingston Police, the investigation into the break and enter remains active. Officers have been conducting searches and inquiries in the surrounding neighbourhood to locate the suspects and gather more information about the incident. Fortunately, the hold and secure was lifted later in the day once the police determined there was no ongoing threat to the schools or the local community.
Officials emphasized the importance of such security measures, particularly in response to incidents that may pose risks to public safety. The swift actions taken by police to secure the schools and investigate the situation reflect their commitment to ensuring the safety of students and staff.
Community Reactions and Safety Protocols
Residents of the Kingscourt neighbourhood expressed relief that the situation was resolved without incident. Many parents reported feeling reassured by the quick response of both the police and school officials. “It’s comforting to know that the schools take these matters seriously and that there are protocols in place to protect our children,” said one parent.
As the investigation continues, the Kingston Police encourage anyone with information about the break and enter to come forward. They remind the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to ensure the safety of all residents.
While the immediate threat has been addressed, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community awareness and collaboration with law enforcement to enhance local safety.
