Liam Young Appointed Vice-Principal at Bishop Smith High School
Liam Young has been appointed as the new vice-principal of Bishop Smith Catholic High School in Pembroke, effective January 1, 2026. The announcement was made by the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB), which expressed confidence in Young’s ability to support the school’s educational mission.
Young has been a teacher at Bishop Smith, specializing in special education, and brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He began his career with the school board in 2019 as an occasional teacher. After spending two years in the United Kingdom working with students with special needs and at-risk youth, Young returned to Canada in 2021. He held long-term occasional teaching positions at Cathedral and St. James schools before being appointed as a permanent teacher at Valleycrest Public School in Pembroke, where he worked from 2023 to 2025.
Experience and Vision for the Future
Mark Searson, the director of education for the RCCDSB, highlighted Young’s focus on student success, particularly for at-risk youth. “Liam’s focus on the success of all students, particularly at-risk youth, and his prior experience in the UK education system bring a unique and valuable perspective,” Searson stated. He expressed confidence that Young would build on the solid foundation of the school community and inspire both staff and students to reach their highest potential.
In his own words, Young expressed enthusiasm about stepping into the vice-principal role. “I am deeply honoured and incredibly excited to accept the role of vice-principal at Bishop Smith Catholic High School,” he commented. Young noted his firsthand experience as a special education teacher, emphasizing the dedication of the staff and the potential of the students. He looks forward to utilizing his background to support all students, ensuring they have the opportunity to succeed and thrive in a positive, inclusive environment.
Support from School Leadership
Julie Huckabone, principal of Bishop Smith Catholic High School, also praised Young’s appointment. “We are thrilled that Liam will be joining the administration team at Bishop Smith Catholic High School,” Huckabone remarked. She emphasized that Young’s commitment to student well-being and success makes him an ideal fit for the leadership position. Huckabone stated the school looks forward to his continued contributions to the Bishop Smith community.
The RCCDSB is eager to welcome Young to its leadership team in the upcoming year, confident that his experience and vision will enhance the educational experience at Bishop Smith Catholic High School.
