Local Schools Show Improvement in EQAO Results for 2024-2025
Local educational authorities have released the results of the 2024-2025 Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments, showcasing varying degrees of student performance across different grades. The tests, administered annually, evaluate students in grades 3, 6, 9, and 10 on their proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Results Overview for Greater Essex County
In the Greater Essex County District School Board, results indicate a positive trend in literacy and mathematics achievement among students.
For Grade 3 students, 73 percent met the provincial standard in reading, marking a three percent increase from the previous year. In writing, the percentage of students meeting the provincial standard remained stable at 64 percent. Mathematics saw a similar improvement, with 62 percent of students achieving the provincial standard, an increase of three percent compared to the 2023-2024 school year.
Grade 6 students experienced even more significant gains. In reading, 86 percent met the provincial standard, up five percent from last year. Writing scores also improved, with 85 percent achieving the standard, an increase of six percent. However, in mathematics, performance held steady, with 51 percent meeting the provincial criteria, consistent with the previous year.
Secondary School Performance
The results for Grade 9 students reflect an overall achievement of 57 percent in mathematics, representing a notable increase of six percent. This improvement suggests a growing proficiency among students in this critical subject area.
For Grade 10 students, results from the Ontario Secondary Schools Literacy Test (OSSLT) indicate that 81 percent of first-time test takers passed, which is a slight increase of one percent. Among repeat test takers, 48 percent were successful, up three percent from the previous year.
Results from the Catholic school board are expected to be released later this afternoon, which may provide further context to the overall performance of students in the region.
These findings highlight a positive trajectory in student achievement within the Greater Essex County District School Board, underscoring the ongoing efforts to enhance educational outcomes across various disciplines.
