New Edukits Enhance Learning of Newfoundland History Ahead of Remembrance Day
Students at St. Peter’s Junior High in Newfoundland and Labrador have become the first to experience an upgraded educational tool designed to enhance their understanding of local history. The Rooms, a cultural and historical centre, has introduced new Edukits that feature recreations of historical artifacts. This initiative coincides with the approach of Remembrance Day on November 11, a time dedicated to honouring those who served in the armed forces.
The previous versions of these Edukits, particularly one centred on the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, required significant updates to better engage students and effectively convey the stories of Newfoundland’s past. A recent contribution of $500,000 from BMO has made this refresh possible.
The hands-on learning experience allows students to interact with replicas of historical items, fostering a deeper connection to the events that shaped their province’s history. These Edukits are designed to bring history to life, making it accessible and relatable for young learners. The investment from BMO underscores the importance of educational initiatives that focus on local heritage and remembrance.
This update not only enhances the educational experience for students but also aligns with broader efforts to ensure that history is preserved and appreciated by future generations. By engaging with these artifacts, students can better understand the sacrifices made by their forebears and the significance of commemorating their contributions.
With the new Edukits now available, The Rooms is poised to make a lasting impact on how history is taught in Newfoundland and Labrador. This initiative exemplifies the power of community partnerships in promoting education and cultural awareness.
