A new pre-primary to Grade 8 school will be constructed in Trenton, Nova Scotia, on land adjacent to the Trenton Minor Sports Community Centre and Trenton Park. This facility is expected to accommodate approximately 300 students. The provincial government announced the site selection on October 20, 2023, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance local education infrastructure.

This initiative follows the announcement made in June 2023, detailing plans to replace the aging Trenton Elementary School and Trenton Middle School. The newly selected site marks a significant step forward, allowing the project to enter the design phase. According to the provincial government, this phase will involve a steering team composed of parents, community members, and school staff to provide input on the school’s design.

The spokesperson for Nova Scotia Public Works shared with CBC News that a request for proposals concerning design and construction services is anticipated to be issued in the coming weeks. This request will initiate the process of selecting a contractor for the project. Once a team is appointed, timelines for construction and an expected opening date will be established.

Local residents had expressed concerns regarding the lack of updates on the project since its initial announcement. The recent developments aim to address these concerns and enhance community engagement throughout the planning process.

The establishment of the new school represents a commitment by the provincial government to invest in education and support the growth of the Trenton community. With the new facility, local families will benefit from modern educational resources and a supportive learning environment for their children.
