New Trustee Wayne Greco Joins Huron-Superior Catholic School Board
Wayne Greco has been appointed as the newest trustee of the Huron–Superior Catholic District School Board (H-SCDSB). This decision was made during a board meeting on November 1, 2023, where trustees unanimously voted to fill the vacancy left by the late trustee Gary Trembinski, who passed away in October. Greco was the next highest polling candidate from the 2022 municipal election.
The board considered various options to fill the vacancy, as outlined by the Education Act. Ultimately, the trustees decided against holding a costly by-election, opting instead to appoint Greco directly.
In his remarks following the decision, Greco expressed his commitment to the role. “With my experience in education and my background, I think I can get up to speed and contribute to the board in short order. I’m happy to be here,” he stated.
Longstanding Commitment to Education
Greco brings over three decades of experience in education to the board. He worked as a teacher and administrator within the H-SCDSB for 32 years, most recently serving as the vice-principal at St. Paul Catholic School. He retired from his position within the board in 2020.
In addition to his role on the school board, Greco is currently the principal of the Batchewana Learning Centre, chairs the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library Board, and serves as the president of Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTOERO) District 3. His extensive background in education underscores his dedication to the community and its schools.
“I have a passion for Catholic education. I think it has a strong place in the community. I see what Catholic education does for children. I see that it’s Christ-centred and the child is first and foremost in what we strive to make a difference for,” Greco added during his address to reporters.
Upcoming Swearing-In Ceremony
Greco’s official swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for the board’s meeting in December 2023. His appointment is expected to enhance the board’s efforts in promoting Catholic education and addressing the needs of students within the H-SCDSB.
As the board prepares for this transition, Greco’s experience and dedication to education position him as a valuable asset in shaping the future of the district’s educational landscape. The community looks forward to his contributions in this pivotal role.
