Ontario Approves $74 Million Blue Coast District School in Forest
The Ontario Ministry of Education has officially approved the amended project commitment for the new Blue Coast District School in Forest, Ontario. The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) has received $74,066,928 in capital funding to develop the educational facility, which will serve students from Junior Kindergarten (JK) to Grade 12.
This new school will feature three childcare rooms and two EarlyON rooms, aiming to provide a comprehensive educational environment for families in the community. “We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Government of Ontario in helping us take this critical next step,” stated Gary Girardi, director of education with LKDSB. He emphasized the school’s role in fostering an inclusive, innovative, and future-focused learning atmosphere for generations of students.
Construction to Begin Near Recreation Centre
The LKDSB is poised to advance into the construction phase of the project, which will be located just west of the Shores Recreation Centre in Forest. The new school will consolidate resources from four existing institutions: Aberarder Central School, Bosanquet Central Public School, Kinnwood Central Public School, and North Lambton Secondary School. This consolidation is designed to enhance educational offerings while optimizing operational efficiencies.
“This project has been years in the making and reflects the input and vision of our students, staff, families, and community partners,” said Brian McKay, associate director of corporate services for LKDSB. He expressed excitement about the forthcoming construction and the potential to welcome students into a modern learning environment.
A Land Ceremony will be held soon, marking a significant milestone for the project. Additionally, a formal groundbreaking event is scheduled for September 2024, which will further celebrate this important initiative for the community. The Blue Coast District School promises to be a cornerstone for education in the region, fostering growth and learning for years to come.
