Prince Albert Catholic School Division Unveils Strategic Plan and Playground Grant

Trustees from the Prince Albert Catholic School Division are set to present their School Community Council (SCC) reports for October and November, focusing on a new strategic plan and a provincial playground initiative. During the regular meeting held on October 6, 2025, Director of Education Lorel Trumier outlined key developments the division is pursuing in collaboration with local SCCs.
Trumier emphasized that a significant component of the discussions will revolve around gathering feedback for a strategic plan covering the period from 2026 to 2030. “We’ll be getting some feedback regarding a strategic plan for the next four years,” Trumier stated. She expressed anticipation for engaging with SCCs to delve into their visions for their children’s education.
In a related initiative, the Saskatchewan government recently announced that applications for the School Playground Equipment Grant program are now open. This new program aims to facilitate the development of safe, accessible playgrounds on school-operated properties throughout the province. Eligible projects can receive up to $50,000 in matching funds for the construction of new playgrounds or for enhancing existing ones.
“The other piece is definitely encouraging them to see the new program that is coming from the government regarding playground grant opportunities,” Trumier noted. The application window will remain open from September 9, 2025, to February 25, 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis. The initiative is being administered in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association and is accessible to school community councils and parent groups affiliated with publicly funded schools, including public, separate, Francophone, and independent schools.
In addition to these initiatives, trustees met with local Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) on October 3, 2025. The discussions involved representatives from Prince Albert Carlton and a representative from Alana Ross‘s office, the MLA for Prince Albert Northcote. Trumier described the meeting as productive, highlighting that the MLAs were receptive to the division’s successes and challenges.
“(The meeting) was very successful in that they were present, they were listening, and they’ve indicated they would like to meet with us again,” Trumier remarked. She conveyed optimism about future discussions, indicating the importance of these meetings for addressing local educational matters.
The Prince Albert Catholic School Division continues to focus on enhancing educational experiences for students and promoting community engagement through these initiatives. With strategic planning and funding opportunities on the horizon, the division aims to foster a supportive and enriching environment for all students.
