Saskatchewan Invests $28.5 Million in New Classrooms for Students
The Government of Saskatchewan has announced a significant investment of $28.5 million in its 2025-26 Relocatable Classroom Program. This funding aims to alleviate space constraints in schools by providing 39 new relocatable classrooms and relocating two existing classrooms to various educational institutions across the province.
Everett Hindley, the province’s Education Minister, emphasized the importance of this initiative during a recent media release. “The Relocatable Classroom Program helps us address space pressures by adding classrooms where they are needed most,” he stated. Hindley noted that this program responds to increasing enrolment numbers, allowing school divisions the flexibility to manage local demands effectively.
Targeted Locations for New Classrooms
The newly funded classrooms will be distributed among several communities, including Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Blaine Lake, Clavet, Corman Park, Humboldt, Lanigan, and Swift Current. Installation of these relocatable classrooms will take place over the summer, ensuring they are ready for students by the start of the 2026-27 school year.
The Ministry of Education highlighted that the program is specifically tailored to address immediate needs for additional classroom space to accommodate rising enrolments. School divisions across Saskatchewan are encouraged to apply for relocatable classrooms, with requests prioritized based on projected enrolment figures.
According to the Ministry’s statement, “Relocatable classrooms meet the same building standards as permanent structures and can be moved to other schools as needs change.” This adaptability is viewed as a key advantage, allowing for a timely and effective response to fluctuating student populations.
Long-Term Commitment to Education Infrastructure
Since the inception of the Relocatable Classroom Program in 2013-14, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed a total of $234 million to enhance educational infrastructure. This ongoing investment underscores the province’s dedication to providing quality learning environments for students.
As school divisions continue to face challenges related to enrolment growth, the relocatable classrooms serve as a flexible and efficient solution to ensure that all students have access to adequate learning spaces. The government’s proactive approach aims to create a better educational experience for Saskatchewan’s youth, adapting swiftly to the needs of the communities it serves.
