Sault College Achieves Independent Accreditation for Nursing Programs

Sault College has announced that its Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and Bridge programs have received official accreditation from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN). This significant milestone marks the first time the college has been accredited as an independent provider of nursing education, having previously collaborated with Laurentian University for program accreditation.

The achievement underscores Sault College’s commitment to meeting rigorous national standards for nursing education excellence. CASN accreditation is recognized across Canada as a benchmark for quality in nursing programs, indicating that Sault College’s offerings exceed national expectations in areas such as curriculum design, faculty qualifications, and student support services.

Program Details and Benefits

The newly accredited standalone Honours BScN program provides students with early and consistent clinical placements, small class sizes, and advanced simulation labs, all designed to prepare them for successful careers in nursing. The RPN-to-BScN Bridge program allows registered practical nurses (RPNs) to complete a one-semester bridge and enter the third year of the four-year BScN program, facilitating career advancement for working professionals.

Both pathways ensure that graduates meet the entry-to-practice competencies required by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX). The inaugural class of the standalone BScN program is set to graduate in June 2026. Although past NCLEX results reflected those of the collaborative program, local improvements implemented to support student success are expected to yield even stronger performance in the future.

In addition to academic benefits, the newly accredited programs qualify for the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant, which provides significant financial support to students who commit to practicing in Ontario after graduation.
