Students at Parry Sound High School and Parry Sound Public School can resume regular activities after a shelter-in-place advisory was lifted on November 1, 2023. The advisory was initially imposed due to a fire near both educational institutions, prompting precautionary measures for student safety.

The Near North District School Board communicated the update via social media, stating, “Ontario Provincial Police have informed Parry Sound High School that they can lift the shelter in place.” The board reassured parents and guardians that school operations would continue as normal, ensuring that end-of-day pick-up procedures, including school bus services, remain unaffected.

Authorities had enacted the advisory as a safety measure while they responded to the nearby fire. The swift lifting of the advisory reflects the resolution of the situation and highlights the effectiveness of the communication between local law enforcement and educational administrators.

Parents and students are encouraged to stay informed through official channels as circumstances may continue to develop. The safety of students remains a priority for both the local police and the school board.
