Steinbach Christian School Expands with New Facilities and Programs

Steinbach Christian School (SCS) is expanding its educational offerings in southeast Manitoba, responding to a significant increase in enrolment. Over the last three years, the school has seen a remarkable growth of 60 percent in student numbers. This surge has prompted the institution to take over the entire campus, previously shared with Steinbach Bible College, to accommodate the growing demand for Christian education.
Beginning this spring, renovations on the former Bible college facilities are underway. The planned upgrades include the addition of four new classrooms, an art room, and a media lab, set to be operational by fall 2026. Principal Thor Barkman expressed enthusiasm about the changes, stating, “We are listening to the community’s interest in Christian education and are committed to trusting God’s guidance as we grow in faith.”
Access to education has also been a priority for SCS. A newly dedicated bus route has been established, providing daily transportation for students in Niverville and Blumenort. “Access to Christian education is important,” Barkman noted, emphasizing how this route has aided families in managing their schedules and improving accessibility.
The decision for the bus route emerged from parent engagement efforts in Niverville last year. In late 2024 and early 2025, SCS administration held informational meetings to assess interest in launching a satellite school in the community. By February 2025, the school had received 60 expressions of interest, along with an additional 20 responses indicating interest in local Christian education for younger children.
SCS is currently exploring the possibility of establishing a Kindergarten to Grade Four school in Niverville. According to public relations representative Dylan Zacharias, the school plans to engage with interested families in the upcoming months. An expression of interest form remains available on the school’s website, with only five or six additional students needed to launch the early years program. For a local Kindergarten program, an additional ten to fifteen students would be required.
Projected annual tuition costs are estimated at $2,500 for Kindergarten students and $3,990 for students in Grades One through Four. This financial information has been communicated to parents as part of the ongoing discussions regarding new educational opportunities.
As Steinbach Christian School continues to adapt and grow, its commitment to providing quality Christian education remains steadfast. The community’s response indicates a strong demand for these educational initiatives, positioning SCS as a vital institution in the region for years to come.
