Sycamore’s Good Tymes Picnics Highlighted in Upcoming Lecture

The DeKalb County History Center will host a lecture on the cherished Good Tymes picnics of Sycamore, Illinois, as part of its Brown Bag Lunch and Local Lore Series. Scheduled for noon on September 4, 2023, the event will take place at the history center located at 1730 N. Main St., Sycamore.

This program aims to revisit the popular picnics that captured the spirit of community in DeKalb County from the 1970s to the 1980s. Attendees will have the opportunity to view a video featuring historical photos and interviews with picnic attendees and committee members. Following the video presentation, participants will be encouraged to ask questions, share their own memories, and examine picnic memorabilia.

Exploring Local Heritage

The Good Tymes picnics were notable for their vibrant atmosphere, which included an annual T-shirt, live music, and an assortment of food. These gatherings fostered a sense of unity and celebration among residents, making them a beloved tradition in the area.
