Two White Oaks Students Achieve Perfect IB Scores in Oakville
Two Grade 12 students from White Oaks Secondary School in Oakville, Ontario, have achieved rare perfect scores in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. Yanzi Guo and Bana Maarouf each earned a score of 7 in all six subject areas, alongside an ‘A’ in both the Theory of Knowledge course and the Extended Essay. This accomplishment places them among a select group of students who attain such high marks in this rigorous program.
Recognition of Achievement
The Halton District School Board (HDSB) expressed pride in the students’ achievements, noting that a perfect IB score is a remarkable feat only accomplished by a small percentage of candidates globally. The IB program, recognized for its challenging curriculum, is designed for highly motivated students, emphasizing academic rigor across languages, mathematics, humanities, and sciences. It is available at approximately 5,000 schools worldwide, including several institutions within the HDSB.
“The IB program reflects the HDSB’s ongoing commitment to fostering academic excellence and global citizenship,” stated Tara Connor, Superintendent of Education responsible for Learning and Achievement for Grades 9 to 12. “Yanzi and Bana’s outstanding achievement highlights the program’s depth and the dedication of the educators who implement it daily.”
Student Perspectives
Both students shared their thoughts on the impact of the IB program on their education. Bana Maarouf expressed gratitude for the support received throughout his studies. “The IB program provided opportunities to refine my skills in critical thinking, time management, and communication,” he remarked. “I couldn’t have done it without the constant support and encouragement from my friends, family, and especially my teachers at White Oaks.”
Yanzi Guo echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging the role of the school community in his success. “I’m extremely grateful to all the White Oaks teachers and staff who have supported me throughout high school,” he said. “I’ve learned so much during my time in the IB program, not just academically, but also in personal growth and community contribution.”
The HDSB is currently implementing its 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan, which aims to align efforts across the organization to support over 67,000 students and 11,000 staff. This plan emphasizes the importance of high-quality programming, such as the IB curriculum, which inspires students and prepares them for success in an interconnected world.
As the achievements of Yanzi Guo and Bana Maarouf illustrate, the IB program at White Oaks Secondary School continues to foster academic excellence and cultivate well-rounded individuals ready to take on future challenges.
