Yorkville District 115 Students Excel in Latest State Report Card

The latest Illinois Report Cards reveal that students from Yorkville School District 115 have outperformed state averages in English language arts, math, and science. The report, processed by the Illinois State Board of Education, reflects newly recalibrated proficiency benchmarks for the 2024-25 school year. These changes, which have received support from District Superintendent Matt Zediker, are aimed at providing “a more accurate picture of student learning and readiness for college and career,” according to the district.

All schools within District 115 received a Commendable designation, surpassing state averages in critical academic subjects. The Illinois grading system categorizes schools into five designations: Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted, Intensive, and Comprehensive. The top 10% of schools are classified as Exemplary, while the bottom 5% receive a Comprehensive rating. Most schools fall into the Commendable category unless they have certain student groups ranked in the bottom 5%.

In a notable improvement, Circle Center Grade School advanced to a Commendable status, shifting from a prior Targeted classification. This reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to enhancing educational outcomes. The state report evaluates various factors, including academic performance, growth in English language arts and math for K-8 schools, high school graduation rates, chronic absenteeism, and overall school quality.

Zediker expressed pride in the district’s performance, attributing it to the dedication of staff, teachers, and students. “We are highly encouraged by the dedication and hard work demonstrated by our students and staff over the past year,” he stated. He highlighted that the district maintains a 97% graduation rate and has successfully reduced chronic absenteeism from 26.1% in 2023 to 21.7% in 2025.

The financial aspect of education in District 115 shows an average spending of $15,317 per student, reflecting an 8.76% increase from the previous year. This figure is slightly lower than the spending in Oswego School District 308, which averages $16,434 per student, and slightly higher than Plainfield School District 202, which spends $15,184 per student. All three districts serve students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

In terms of academic proficiency, District 115 achieved a 56.9% score in English language arts, exceeding the state average of 52.4%. Comparatively, Oswego District 308 scored 57.9%, while Plainfield District 202 scored 61.5%. In math, the district’s proficiency score was 39.6%, surpassing the state average of 38.4%, with Oswego District 308 at 43.7% and Plainfield District 202 at 43.6%.

For science proficiency, District 115 scored 47.6%, above the state average of 44.6%. Oswego District 308 earned 53.5%, while Plainfield District 202 scored 54.2%.

Zediker emphasized that the district uses the report cards to foster collaboration around learning, instructional coaching, and refining curricula and resources.
