Britney Spears has publicly addressed allegations made by her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, in his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew. The memoir, set to be released on October 21, 2023, includes claims that Spears exhibited concerning behavior, including watching their sons sleep while holding a knife. A representative for Spears stated that Federline and others continue to profit off her story, particularly now that child support payments have ended.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Spears’ representative emphasized her dedication to her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James Federline, aged 20 and 19, respectively. “All she cares about are her kids and their well-being during this sensationalism,” the representative said. The statement also referenced Spears’ own memoir, The Woman in Me, published in 2023, which details her personal journey.

Federline, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, expressed his worries about both Spears and their sons in excerpts shared with the New York Times. He noted their lack of communication over the years, stating, “We haven’t spoken in years.” He described an incident where the boys reportedly found Spears standing silently at their bedroom door, claiming, “Oh, you’re awake?” while holding a knife.

In the memoir, Federline argues that the situation has deteriorated to a point of crisis. “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK,” he stated. He raised alarm about what he perceives as an impending disaster, saying, “Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.” He urged fans of the “Free Britney” movement to shift their focus to a “Save Britney” initiative, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

Federline has indicated that he did not share the contents of his memoir with Spears prior to its release. “I’ve never, ever, once, been against Britney. I’ve only tried to help my sons have an incredible relationship with their mother,” he said. The complexities of their relationship and the impact on their children weighed heavily in his remarks.

In August 2022, Spears had previously responded to Federline’s comments about their sons’ relationship with her, which he described as strained. Federline noted that the boys had chosen not to see their mother for several months, even missing her wedding to Sam Asghari. He said, “This whole thing has been hard to watch… harder to watch my boys go through than anything else.”

Spears was released from a 13-year conservatorship in November 2021. Federline expressed a controversial opinion regarding the conservatorship, suggesting it had a stabilizing effect on Spears’s life. “When Jamie took over, things got into order. He saved her life,” he remarked about Spears’ father, Jamie Spears.

In response to Federline’s latest allegations, Spears voiced her concerns via an Instagram story. “It saddens me to hear that my ex-husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children,” she wrote, adding that raising teenage boys presents unique challenges. She highlighted the painful nature of Federline’s claims, stating, “It was LONG before Instagram… I gave them everything. Only one word: HURTFUL.”

The public exchange between Spears and Federline underscores the ongoing complexities of their relationship and its implications for their children. As the release of Federline’s memoir approaches, the dialogue surrounding their family continues to attract significant media attention.
