Devolver to Rock Grain Bin Brewing with New Album on August 23
Heavy metal enthusiasts in Grande Prairie have something to look forward to. On August 23, 2023, local band Devolver will take the stage at the Grain Bin Brewing Company for an album release show featuring their latest work, titled “Non Compos Mentis”. This event promises to be a memorable evening, not only for the music but also for a unique collaboration with the brewing company, resulting in a special beer called “Brews of the Maw.” This blood orange and blackberry ale is sure to appeal to those attending the show.
The lineup for the evening will also include other live performances from artists such as Lero, Nazzy, and Matt Stanyer. Doors will open at 18:00, with the music commencing at 19:00. All ages are welcome, making this an inclusive event for the community. Tickets are priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door, available through the Grain Bin Brewing website.
Devolver, comprised of Jaylen Elias on bass, Jayde Penner and Devin Babcock on guitars, Bevin Booth on drums, and Chris Brown on vocals, originated from a project started by Babcock in 2025. Initially a solo endeavor, it has since evolved into a full band dynamic. Elias reflects on the collaborative nature of their new album, stating, “It’s really the whole band’s thing.”
The band’s influences span a range of heavy metal legends, including Killswitch Engage, Children of Bodom, and Pantera, with a particular focus on the melodies characteristic of Scandinavian death metal. Elias notes, “We’re a pretty clear amalgamation of all our biggest influences and things that made us want to play metal music in the first place.”
Elias also highlights the importance of fostering a vibrant music scene. “When I started playing music here, there were more metal shows in general, as well as more all-ages shows. I feel like, in the last several years, it’s been kind of dying down a little bit.” He expresses enthusiasm for the upcoming show, emphasizing the significance of all-ages events for nurturing future generations of music fans.
Devolver has previously graced the stage at venues such as Better Than Fred’s and participated in the Loud as Hell music festival in Drumheller in 2022. While they have no concrete plans for the remainder of the year, Elias mentions that following this album release in their hometown, they might consider planning a tour as early as next spring.
As excitement builds for the concert, the chance to enjoy live music, local brews, and community engagement promises to make this event a highlight for Grande Prairie residents and visitors alike.
