Discover Thanksgiving Weekend’s Top Films in Ottawa

As Thanksgiving weekend approaches, film enthusiasts in Ottawa have an array of new releases to consider. Entertainment expert Matt Demers, widely known as Mr. Hollywood, recently shared his insights on CTV Your Morning Live, highlighting some of the most anticipated films hitting theatres.
New Releases to Watch
One of the standout films this weekend is Tron: Ares, the third installment in the iconic franchise. With a rating of PG-13, this film takes a bold approach by bringing digital worlds into the real environment. “In the previous movies, we go into those digital worlds; this time they’re bringing them to us,” Mr. Hollywood explained. He commended the film’s striking visuals and the Nine Inch Nails-produced soundtrack, although he noted that the storyline may not resonate as strongly as its predecessors. “Story-wise, maybe it doesn’t hold up to the previous two, but there is some fun stuff in there, and lots of action,” he added. Tron: Ares features a talented cast including Jared Leto, Greta Lee, and Jeff Bridges, and is directed by Joachim Rønning. The film is available in theatres this weekend.
Another notable release is the crime-comedy Roofman, rated R and based on a true story. Starring Channing Tatum in the lead role, the film follows a character known as the Roofman, who executes heists by entering establishments through the rooftops. “I love this movie,” Mr. Hollywood stated enthusiastically. “He’s called the Roofman because he would rob places like McDonald’s and whatnot.” The plot thickens as Tatum’s character escapes from jail and seeks refuge in a Toys “R” Us, intertwining a love story that adds to the film’s intrigue. Accompanying Tatum are Kirsten Dunst and LaKeith Stanfield, with direction by Derek Cianfrance.
Thanksgiving Movie Picks
For those looking to embrace the festive spirit, Mr. Hollywood has curated a list of films perfect for the Thanksgiving weekend. His recommendations reflect a blend of genres, catering to diverse audiences seeking both entertainment and a sense of celebration.
Whether viewers opt for the thrilling visuals of Tron: Ares or the engaging narrative of Roofman, this Thanksgiving weekend promises a rich selection of cinematic offerings. As families gather to celebrate, these films provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy time together in the warmth of the holiday spirit.
In conclusion, Ottawa’s theatres are set to offer exciting new content for audiences during this holiday weekend, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
