Echo Bay Musician Releases Debut Album, Plans Live Launch
Tom Peer, a musician from Echo Bay, is set to release his debut solo album, It’s Just Tim’s Dietary Restrictions for the Monophagist, on November 5. The album, featuring ten original tracks, showcases Peer’s innovative DIY approach to music production, incorporating unique sounds recorded from his surroundings, including bird calls, a microwave, doors, and even his daughter’s toy.
Peer spent the summer months crafting the album in his library and music room, utilizing his skills on guitar and piano while adding percussion with various household items. “It sounds like a full band when you listen to it,” Peer explained in a recent interview with The Sault Star. This creative effort reflects his desire to explore diverse musical influences, blending elements of folk with a hint of punk.
Album Launch and Future Plans
The album launch is scheduled for November 5 at Broers Jansen Wine Bar at 19:00, featuring fellow artist Gimiiwan Ikwe as the opening act. Peer highlighted his intention to mix genres, stating, “Mixing up some genres, you’re just able to kind of express a lot more than you would within one frame of art.” This debut follows his extensive experience playing with various bands, such as Caddy Street Avenue, The Dustcovers, and The Way Backs.
Peer expressed enthusiasm about sharing his music, noting he had “a lot” of songs he wanted to bring to life. “If I have a weird idea that I want to try, I can do it myself instead of having to try to explain it to somebody,” he said. The album will be available on streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, on the same day as the launch. Two singles, “We Paint at Night” and “Maybe I’m Afraid,” have already been released to generate buzz.
Upcoming Local Events
The local music scene is vibrant, with several events lined up in the coming weeks. From October 30 to November 1, Shot in the Dark presents “Company” at The Loft at 19:30. Tickets are priced at $35 and are available at algomaconservatory.com. On November 1, “Frozen in Time” will take place at the Sault Community Theatre Centre at 11:00 and 14:00, with tickets ranging from $32.25 to $43.55.
Other notable performances include Foreigner with 54-40 at GFL Memorial Gardens at 19:30 and Flathead Ford at Iron Bridge Recreation Centre at 19:00. Tickets for these events are available through respective box offices and websites.
