The week kicks off on Wednesday, January 21, at the Southside Nazarene Church, where the Heritage Hymn Sing invites attendees to enjoy familiar hymns starting at 18:00. Local music enthusiasts can also catch a lively performance by Doug Cox and Steve Mitchell on Thursday, January 22, at Char’s Landing. This concert, featuring an eclectic mix of country, blues, R&B, and bluegrass, begins at 19:30, with doors opening at 18:30.
Saturday, January 24, marks the 43rd Annual Robbie Burns Night, hosted by the Mac Kenzie School of Dance. This event will take place at the Alberni Valley United Church, starting at 17:00. Tickets are available online at eventgroove.ca, ensuring a festive celebration of Scottish culture.
On Sunday, January 25, jazz aficionados can delight in a performance featuring pianist Barry Miller and his ensemble at Char’s Landing from 18:00 to 20:00. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own dinner, with a voluntary gratuity upon entry appreciated.

The following week offers more opportunities for community involvement. On Thursday, January 29, the Veggie Supper Club will host its monthly meeting at 17:00, featuring a cooking demonstration at 16:00. This month’s theme celebrates the Asian Hotpot and Dumplings, coinciding with the upcoming Chinese New Year.
Electric Mermaid will hold a live reading event featuring poet Ronna Bloom on Wednesday, January 28, at Char’s Landing. This engaging session runs from 18:00 to 20:00, with a suggested admission fee of $10.
As the week concludes, another musical event, Birdbelly, will take place at Char’s Landing on Friday, January 30. This concert begins at 19:30, with tickets priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
