Key City Theatre Unveils New Elevator, Enhances Accessibility
The Key City Theatre in Cranbrook is set to celebrate a significant milestone in accessibility with the grand opening of its new elevator on March 12, 2024, starting at 18:30. This event, free for the community, marks a pivotal moment for the venue, enhancing access for all patrons.
Guests can enjoy a complimentary drink, gourmet treats from Heidout, and live soft jazz performed by the Dean Smith Trio. Entry does not require tickets, making the celebration open to everyone interested in participating.
Galen Olstead, the Executive Director of Key City Theatre, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “This elevator is a big step forward for Key City Theatre, and for the community we serve. ‘Give Us A Lift’ was built on the belief that everyone should be able to fully experience what happens here, whether you’re coming to a show, visiting the art gallery, volunteering your time, or visiting for the first time. On March 12, we’re proud to open the doors and celebrate this milestone together.”
The elevator installation is part of the “Give Us A Lift” initiative, a fundraising campaign aimed at improving accessibility at the Key City Theatre. This project received support from various organizations, including Canadian Heritage, Columbia Basin Trust, and the Regional District of East Kootenay. Additionally, local businesses and community members contributed significantly, underscoring the collaborative effort to enhance the theatre’s facilities.
Community Celebration and Acknowledgment
The opening event is designed as an open-house style celebration, providing opportunities for attendees to connect, enjoy live music, and acknowledge the partners and community members who contributed to the project. The Key City Theatre encourages all community members, supporters, and those who have followed the “Give Us A Lift” journey to join in this celebration.
This initiative not only improves physical access but also aims to foster a more inclusive environment where everyone can participate in the vibrant cultural life of Cranbrook and its surrounding areas. The addition of the elevator is a testament to the commitment of the Key City Theatre to serve all members of the community, ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to enjoying the arts.
As the theatre prepares for this exciting new chapter, the community looks forward to the enhanced experiences that lie ahead. The grand opening promises to be a memorable evening, symbolizing progress and unity within the community.
