Local actors are set to shine in the upcoming production of “Company,” a musical comedy by renowned composer Stephen Sondheim. Shot in the Dark Theatre has assembled a talented fourteen-member cast, along with a five-person ensemble, to bring this celebrated show to life. Performances will take place from October 29 to November 1 at The Loft, located in the Canal District and serving as the primary performing arts venue for the Algoma Conservatory.

Tickets for the show are currently available for $35 through the Conservatory’s website, reflecting an exciting opportunity for the community to experience a landmark theatrical event. “Company” will be the first major theatre piece performed at The Loft, marking a significant milestone for the venue.

Cast Highlights and Character Dynamics

In the lead role of Bobby, Andrew Stuetz will take audiences on a journey of personal growth. Known for his performances in productions such as “White Christmas,” “Jersey Boys,” and “Singing in the Rain,” Stuetz is eager to embrace the challenges of this iconic character. He describes his portrayal as an opportunity to “stretch his acting muscles,” emphasizing the evolution of Bobby from a successful bachelor to a more complex individual.

“It’s a beautiful arc to go on as a character,” Stuetz shared. “The way we’re rehearsing is going to really connect with audiences.” The musical opens with Bobby’s birthday celebration, where his friends—five quirky married couples—gather to honor him in his New York apartment.

Among the talented cast, Jaime Miller and Leo Moore portray Sarah and Harry, two high-strung New Yorkers who turn to karate as a humorous way to confront their vices. Amanda Hicks Moss and Mike Poluk play Susan and Peter, an unconventional couple who discover the keys to a harmonious marriage later in life. Meanwhile, Sarah St. Amour and Kyle Wilson embody Jenny and David, who find unexpected love and laughter despite their mismatched backgrounds.

The younger couple, Amy and Paul, will be brought to life by Abby Barsanti and Aj Ancieto, who navigate comedic obstacles on their path to the altar. The cast also features Nuala Kenny and Aaron Fisher as Joanne and Larry, and Alison MacDonald, Yafei Deng, and Nicolette Rebello as April, Kathy, and Marta, three bachelorettes vying for Bobby’s attention.

Director’s Vision and Community Impact

Directors Anthony Aceti and Rob Rock expressed their excitement about the cast’s potential. “Each actor has such a strong resume,” Aceti stated. “The blend of personalities and talents is remarkable. It’s going to be a spectacular night of theatre.” He noted that the chemistry between the couples and the comedic surprises in the script create a dynamic experience for the audience.

Alison MacDonald, who plays the flight attendant April, reflected on her character’s intriguing dynamic with Bobby. “She fascinates him, but at the same time, I think she scares him a little bit. It’s quite funny and charming to watch him squirm in our scenes.” Celebrating ten years in theatre, MacDonald began her journey at Superior Heights and has since pursued a career in film production.

With a talented cast and an enthusiastic creative team, Shot in the Dark Theatre’s production of “Company” promises to be a memorable event for the community. As opening night approaches, anticipation is building for what is expected to be an engaging and entertaining theatrical experience.
