Phaeton Launches New Album with Cranbrook Shows This November
The instrumental progressive metal quartet Phaeton is set to embark on a Western Canadian tour this November, promoting their third full-length album, ‘Neurogenesis.’ Known for their captivating live performances, the band will return to their hometown of Cranbrook for two shows on November 21 and November 29.
Following the success of their 2020 release, ‘Between Two Worlds,’ ‘Neurogenesis’ represents a significant evolution in Phaeton’s sound. The album showcases a more concise approach while maintaining the band’s imaginative flair. Engineered and mixed by guitarist Kevin Thiessen at The Cube in Kimberley, the album was mastered by Jamie Sitar at Outtatown Sound in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It features artwork by Calgary-based artist Matt Semenok and includes a special guest appearance by renowned progressive musician Derek Sherinian, known for his work with Dream Theater and Sons of Apollo.
Phaeton, formed in 2017 in Kimberley, incorporates elements of neo-classical melodicism, heavy riffs, and intricate percussion. The current lineup consists of Kevin Thiessen (guitars, keyboards), Daniel Airth (guitars), Ferdy Belland (bass), and Colin Righton (drums). Their music is characterized by its ability to channel cosmic themes into meticulously crafted soundscapes, offering wordless journeys through shifting time signatures and soaring melodies.
The themes explored in ‘Neurogenesis’ delve into the concept of technological singularity and the merging of biological minds with machine intelligence. The band presents this exploration as both a cautionary tale and a sober observation about the future of humanity.
The album is currently available on digital platforms through INB Music, with vinyl editions anticipated later this year. Phaeton also plans to release more music in the coming years, including a standalone 22-minute epic titled ‘Clouds of Mercury’ in 2026 and their fourth album, ‘Quartum’, in 2027.
Phaeton’s upcoming performances in Cranbrook will take place at Shotties Nightclub, featuring support from local acts including Dead Bob and Blind Marc on November 21, and Anciients on November 29. The band invites fans to experience their dynamic new sound live, promising an electrifying atmosphere that showcases their innovative musical journey.
