Qualicum Beach Resident Celebrates $500,000 Lottery Win

A resident of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, has won a remarkable $500,000 prize from the Extra game associated with the August 1, 2023, Lotto Max draw. Ann Maybee discovered her life-changing news while shopping at a local convenience store.
While in Munchy Business, Maybee scanned her lottery ticket and was met with an astonishing revelation. “That’s when I first found out that I won. The first thing that came to mind was, ‘holy cow!’” she recounted. The excitement was palpable, and her immediate thought was about the process of claiming her winnings. “How do I claim this?” she wondered.
At the time of her prize claim, Maybee had not disclosed her win to anyone. “I haven’t told anyone yet! I am still too excited,” she shared. Reflecting on her newfound fortune, she expressed, “Very nice! And nice is not a word to be underestimated!”
The winning ticket was purchased at a Red Apple store located on Island Highway West in Parksville. This year, British Columbia lottery players have collectively redeemed over $35 million in winnings from the Extra game and more than $163 million from Lotto Max.
The Extra is a popular add-on game, available for $1 with purchases of Daily Grand, Lotto 6/49, BC/49, and Lotto Max at any B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC) retailer or through PlayNow.com. Players are encouraged to “Say ‘Yes’ to the Extra” for a chance to win up to $500,000.
As Maybee processes her win, she has not yet outlined any specific plans for her windfall. For now, she enjoys the thrill of her unexpected fortune, a sentiment shared by many fortunate lottery winners across the province.
