Radiohead Announces 20 Live Shows After Seven-Year Hiatus
In a highly anticipated return, British rock band Radiohead has announced a series of live performances after a seven-year break. The band will host 20 shows across five European cities: Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin this November and December. Each city will feature four nights of performances, marking the band’s first live shows since 2018.
While Radiohead last toured in support of their 2016 album, A Moon Shaped Pool, fans are eager to see what the band has in store for this comeback. Although there has been no confirmation of new original material, the band recently announced a live album, Hail to the Thief — Live Recordings 2003-2009, set for release on October 31, 2023.
Band Members Reflect on Reunion
The decision to perform again follows a year of informal rehearsals. Drummer Phil Selway shared his thoughts in a recent statement: “Last year, we got together to rehearse, just for the hell of it. After a seven-year pause, it felt really good to play the songs again and reconnect with a musical identity that has become lodged deep inside all five of us.” He expressed excitement about the upcoming shows, adding, “It also made us want to play some shows together, so we hope you can make it to one of the upcoming dates.”
Ticket registration for the shows begins on September 15, 2023, and will remain open for 72 hours at Radiohead.com. The official ticket sale will commence a week later, providing fans an opportunity to secure their spots for this much-anticipated return.
Members’ Solo Projects During Hiatus
During their time away from the stage, the members of Radiohead have been involved in various projects. Vocalist Thom Yorke and guitarist Jonny Greenwood formed an art rock side project called The Smile, which has released three albums. Meanwhile, Colin Greenwood joined Nick Cave‘s live band, and Ed O’Brien released his debut solo album, Earth, in 2020. In 2023, Selway also released his third solo album, Strange Dance.
As the music world awaits the return of Radiohead, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for updates regarding their upcoming performances and any potential new music in the future. The excitement surrounding this reunion reflects the band’s enduring legacy in the music industry and the deep connection they maintain with their audience.
