Richard Zussman Leaves Global News After Eight Years for New Opportunity
Richard Zussman, a prominent reporter at Global BC, has announced his departure from the network after eight years of dedicated service. Zussman, who has become a well-known figure in British Columbia’s news landscape, shared his decision on social media, stating that his final day will be November 18, 2023.
In his post on X, Zussman expressed gratitude for the support he received from viewers, followers, and listeners throughout his career. “I am deeply grateful to all of the viewers, social media followers and listeners over the years,” he wrote. His tenure at Global BC began in 2018, during which he established himself as a leading legislative reporter.
A Distinguished Career
Zussman’s contributions to journalism have not gone unnoticed. He has received multiple Jack Webster Awards, which recognize excellence in journalism within the province. Additionally, his work has earned him several RTDNA Canada awards and prestigious Edward R. Murrow awards, highlighting his commitment to covering British Columbia’s political landscape.
A graduate of the Newhouse School at Syracuse University with a Master’s in Broadcast Journalism, Zussman has also co-authored the book A Matter of Confidence: The Inside Story of the Political Battle for BC. Before joining Global BC, he served as a provincial affairs reporter for CBC BC and contributed to various talk shows at CKNW Radio.
Moving Forward
In his announcement, Zussman hinted at his future plans, stating, “I have made the decision to take my passion and try something new.” His intention to explore new opportunities has sparked interest among his followers and colleagues alike.
The news of his departure prompted an outpouring of well-wishes and sentiments from peers and public figures. Vancouver city councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung remarked, “Your calm, clear and thoughtful assessments of political issues have become part of our daily lives and will truly be missed.” Veteran broadcaster Lynda Steele also acknowledged Zussman’s impact, wishing him luck in his next career adventure.
Colleagues like Alexander Quon, provincial affairs reporter for CBC Saskatchewan, expressed concern over the loss to British Columbia’s political reporting, saying, “This is a big loss for BC politics and Global BC. Good luck on whatever comes next!”
