Steel City NerdCon Thrives with Community Engagement over Weekend
Steel City NerdCon drew a significant crowd over the Thanksgiving long weekend, becoming a focal point for local fans of collectibles and pop culture. The three-day event, held at Soo Blaster, concluded at 4 p.m. today and featured approximately 60 vendors. These vendors offered a diverse selection of items, including collectibles, trading cards, video games, and other pop culture merchandise.
The event was organized by Michael Turcotte, owner of Vintage Games ‘N Junque, who aimed to create a welcoming atmosphere for enthusiasts of all ages. Attendees had the opportunity to explore a vibrant marketplace and engage with vendors, fostering a sense of community among participants.
In addition to the marketplace, Steel City NerdCon included several entertaining activities. A charity nine-ball tournament attracted many local billiards enthusiasts, while a charity Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament drew in trading card aficionados. The presence of flash tattoos by Tattoo Tearz further added to the event’s appeal, offering attendees a chance to commemorate their experience in a unique way.
The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement over the range of activities and the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals. The event not only showcased local talent and businesses but also supported charitable causes through its tournaments.
As the event wrapped up its successful run, it is clear that Steel City NerdCon has established itself as a key highlight in the local calendar. Turcotte’s vision for a fun, inclusive, and engaging experience appears to have resonated well with the community, setting a strong foundation for future events.
