Tennessee Fan Transforms Sudbury into Animal Crossing Island
The television series Shoresy, filmed in Sudbury, has inspired a unique project by Dani Burge, a fan based in Tennessee. Burge is creating a digital representation of Sudbury within the popular video game Animal Crossing. Her work reflects not only her admiration for the show but also a deep appreciation for the community it represents.
Burge’s journey began with her love for the blend of humor and relatable life experiences depicted in Shoresy. “I was hooked from the start,” she stated. She found the show motivational, particularly in her own athletic pursuits. While revisiting the series, Burge had the idea to craft a themed island in Animal Crossing.
She initially imagined a Shoresy-themed island but quickly realized that most scenes were filmed indoors or at a limited number of locations. “There wasn’t enough to make a whole Animal Crossing island,” she explained. This led her to research Sudbury more extensively, choosing to base her island design on actual local businesses while integrating subtle references to the show.
Using resources like Google Maps and engaging with local Sudburians via an online Animal Crossing community, Burge began to bring her vision to life. She has already recreated notable places such as the Sudbury Community Arena and the nearby CP Rail station located at 233 Elgin St.
Burge plans to expand her digital Sudbury further, with designs for local favorites including Tim Hortons, Canadian Tire, the Sudbury Jail, Peppi Panini, The Grand, and The Coulson. She is also working on a replica of the iconic Superstack, which is reportedly set for demolition. “I want to keep the memories alive for everyone by building it on my island,” she added.
Initially, Burge incorporated logos inspired by the show, including the fictional Sudbury Blueberry Bluedogs hockey team. Recently, she has shifted to creating actual logos, such as those of the Sudbury Wolves. Images showcasing her creations have been shared on the Animal Crossing New Horizons Community page on Facebook, garnering significant attention and positive feedback.
Commenters have expressed their enthusiasm, with one stating, “As a Sudburian, I am obsessed with this design.” Another added, “Nailed it! Lol never thought I’d see something from my hometown in game. Very nice.” The response has exceeded Burge’s expectations. “I’m genuinely surprised at the reaction I’ve gotten from this, to be honest,” she said.
Burge’s project not only highlights her creativity but also underscores the cultural impact of Shoresy and its connection to the Sudbury community. As her island grows, it serves as a digital tribute to both the show and the city, fostering a sense of nostalgia and engagement among fans and residents alike.
