United Way of Grundy County Marks 80 Years with Dolly Parton Raffle
The United Way of Grundy County is commemorating its 80th anniversary alongside the 80th birthday of beloved musician Dolly Parton. The celebration features a raffle that will take place on March 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. via Facebook Live. The grand prize is a $250 Dolly Parton-themed basket, with all proceeds benefiting the Imagination Library program in Grundy County.
This year, every donation of $80 will grant five tickets for the raffle. The funds raised will help provide five children with new books for an entire year. The basket includes popular titles such as “Star of the Show” and “Dolly Parton: Songteller,” along with a CD copy of “Diamond & Rhinestones.” It also features a 2026 wall calendar, a framed photo, a tote bag, and a $100 gift certificate for the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce.
Supporting Early Literacy in Grundy County
The Imagination Library, established by Dolly Parton, is a notable book-gifting initiative that sends free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, regardless of their family’s financial situation. This program aims to promote early literacy and a love for reading among young children. According to the official website, the initiative has distributed millions of books worldwide, making a significant impact on early childhood education.
The United Way of Grundy County’s decision to align its anniversary celebration with Dolly Parton’s birthday reflects a shared commitment to enriching the lives of children in the community. The organization emphasizes the importance of providing access to books, fostering reading habits, and ensuring that all children have the opportunity to learn and grow.
Join the Celebration
Community members are encouraged to participate in the raffle and support this worthy cause. The virtual event will not only celebrate the milestones of the United Way but also honor the legacy of Dolly Parton and her contributions to children’s literacy.
By participating in this event, individuals can help make a difference in the lives of children in Grundy County while celebrating two significant anniversaries. The United Way invites everyone to join in the festivities and contribute to a future where every child has access to the joy of reading.
