Victoria Baroque is set to present an evening of captivating music at St. John the Divine in Victoria on October 3, 2023. The concert will feature Dutch-Canadian cellist Diederik Van Dijk, alongside musicians Amy Laing and Katrina Russell, performing a selection of Baroque concertos that highlight the rich textures of classical music.

The evening’s program includes Vivaldi’s Concerto for Cello and Bassoon, a piece described by Victoria Baroque as “full of evocative landscape painting,” reminiscent of Vivaldi’s renowned Four Seasons. This concert aims to showcase not only traditional works but also contemporary compositions from Canadian artists.

In a celebration of modern music, the concert will feature works by two prominent Canadian composers. Indigenous composer Cris Derksen presents her piece Land Bach, which draws inspiration from the timeless melodies of Bach’s Cello Suites. Additionally, Emily Doolittle, a composer and zoomusicologist, will perform her piece Utah 1996, which explores the intricate shapes and patterns of the song of the hermit thrush.
