The White Rock Players Club is set to captivate audiences with its 2025-26 season opener, featuring two suspenseful plays that promise to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. From October 1 to October 19, the club will present adaptations of Jeffrey Hatcher’s adaptation of Henry James’ classic novella The Turn of the Screw and Hatcher’s original play Murderers at the Oceana PARC Playhouse, located at 1532 Johnston Rd.

In a nod to its origins, the club’s directors boast an impressive background in education. The White Rock Players Club, founded in 1944 by a group of Surrey district school teachers, continues to celebrate its theatrical roots. The first production, The Turn of the Screw, tells the chilling story of a governess, portrayed by Janine Guy, who is tasked with caring for two orphaned children. As she delves deeper into her role, she uncovers unsettling truths about her predecessor, who vanished under mysterious circumstances.

Director Candace Radcliffe helms this adaptation, marking her first production with the Players Club, though she is no stranger to directing. Radcliffe is the head of the performing arts department at Earl Marriott Secondary and has a rich history of directing summer theatre productions as a co-founder of Beach House Theatre at Crescent Beach.

The second production, Murderers, offers a different kind of suspense. Set in modern-day Florida, the play introduces three seemingly ordinary residents—Gerald (played by David J. Bodor), Lucy (portrayed by Nancy Ebert), and Minka (played by Lori Tych). As the narrative unfolds, each character confesses to murder, revealing how circumstances led them to commit such extreme acts.

This production is directed by Bridget Browning, a member of the WRPC Board and a former educator. Although it is her first directing engagement with the club, Browning has an extensive background, having directed numerous productions for Naked Stage Productions Society.

Tickets for the preview of Murderers on October 1 and The Turn of the Screw on October 2 are priced at $20 each. Following the previews, performances of Murderers will occur on October 1, 3, 4 (matinee), 9, 11, 12 (matinee), 15, 17, and 18 (matinee). The Turn of the Screw will be staged on October 2, 4, 5 (matinee), 8, 10, 11 (matinee), 16, 18, and 19 (matinee).

For regular performances, tickets are available at $29 for adults, while seniors (60 and over) and youth (up to 18) can purchase tickets for $25. Interested patrons can secure tickets through the club’s website, whiterockplayers.ca, via email at [email protected], or by calling 604-536-7535. The White Rock Players Club’s commitment to delivering captivating theatre continues with this exciting season opener, promising an unforgettable experience for audiences.
