Young Rapper Steals the Spotlight with Wu-Tang Clan in Toronto

A 12-year-old rapper from Brampton made an unforgettable impression during the Wu-Tang Clan’s farewell tour at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on January 29, 2024. Cairo Young-Abdullah, known by his stage name Cairo Snow FTPO, was invited on stage by RZA, the group’s de facto leader, to perform three songs in front of a sold-out crowd of 19,000 fans. His moment in the spotlight highlights the ongoing influence of the legendary hip-hop collective, even among the younger generation.
As the performance unfolded, RZA took a moment to engage with the audience, spotting Young-Abdullah’s enthusiasm from the crowd. He invited the young artist up on stage, where Cairo joined Wu-Tang members including Masta Killa and U-God. “I was feeling the music and I was pumped,” Young-Abdullah said. “Like, a level of pumped I haven’t experienced in so, so long.” Together, they encouraged the audience to jump in unison, creating an electric atmosphere.
After the show, Cairo had the opportunity to meet the entire Wu-Tang Clan backstage. This included taking photos with members such as Ghostface Killah and Raekwon. “To share the stage with legends in front of thousands in my hometown — this is something I’ll never forget,” he reflected on the experience.
Young-Abdullah’s journey to this moment did not happen overnight. Born and raised in Brampton, he began rapping at the age of five. “From the crib, that’s what I was doing,” he shared. Without access to platforms like YouTube, he learned the art of hip-hop by listening to his father’s collection of CDs, which featured artists like Wu-Tang, Nas, and Jay-Z. By seven, he was writing his own lyrics, and his talent soon caught the attention of producer MTStreets from Los Angeles.
In January 2024, with guidance from MTStreets and producer B3, Young-Abdullah released his debut single, “Cairo Snow FTPO.” The track showcased his charisma and confidence, quickly gaining traction on streaming platforms like Spotify.
When the Wu-Tang Clan announced their Toronto concert, Young-Abdullah was determined to meet his musical idols, even without a ticket. Last summer, he had the chance to rap for Raekwon during a meet-and-greet, where he left a lasting impression. Raekwon was so impressed that he exchanged contact information with Young-Abdullah, and they maintained limited contact over the months.
On the day of the concert, Raekwon invited Young-Abdullah to meet him before the show, introducing him to fellow member Inspectah Deck. “The love and support that he was shown inside the meet-and-greet was surreal,” his father, Omar Young-Abdullah, recounted. Afterward, a member of Wu-Tang’s crew provided Young-Abdullah with an extra ticket, allowing him and his mother to attend the performance.
During the concert, Young-Abdullah made his way to the front of the stage. When RZA prompted audience members to represent different generations, Young-Abdullah waved enthusiastically. RZA noticed him and called him up to the stage, a moment that left Cairo in disbelief. “It was just crazy,” he recalled.
Less than 24 hours after his exhilarating experience, Young-Abdullah expressed a renewed inspiration to create more music. He shared a powerful message with his new fans: “Be unrelentingly yourself.” He emphasized the importance of staying true to one’s identity and pursuing one’s dreams despite external pressures.
Cairo Young-Abdullah’s performance and interaction with Wu-Tang Clan not only marks a significant milestone in his young career but also reinforces the enduring legacy of hip-hop culture across generations. As he continues to navigate his journey as an artist, the support from legends like Wu-Tang serves as a powerful motivator for the aspiring rapper.
