YouTube Launches ‘Recap’ Feature for Personalized Year-End Review
YouTube has begun rolling out its new feature, Recap, which offers users a personalized review of their viewing habits over the past year. This initiative mirrors the popular Spotify Wrapped and is currently available to users in North America, with plans to expand to additional regions later this week.
The Recap feature can be accessed directly from the platform’s homepage or through the “You” tab on both mobile devices and desktop computers. Users can expect to see a collection of insights that reflect their unique interests, viewing habits, and engagement on the platform throughout 2025.
What to Expect from YouTube Recap
YouTube’s Recap presents a set of twelve distinct cards that showcase the user’s top channels and interests. The feature not only highlights the evolution of viewing habits but also attempts to categorize users into personality types based on their watched content. For example, users will discover insights about whether they lean towards being an “Adventurer,” “Skill Builder,” or “Creative Spirit.”
In addition to general viewing patterns, music enthusiasts will receive a summary of their top artists and songs for the year. This includes a detailed look into various genres, podcasts, and a snapshot of international music preferences available on the YouTube Music app.
Testing and Feedback Process
Prior to the official launch, YouTube engaged in extensive testing, evaluating over fifty different concepts and conducting nine rounds of user feedback. The company aimed to create an experience that resonates with the diverse personalities of its audience.
The feature’s design is intended to encourage sharing, allowing users to save and share their Recap with family and friends. If users do not yet have access to the feature, they can expect to see it available soon as the rollout continues.
As YouTube continues to innovate, the introduction of Recap reflects its commitment to enhancing user engagement by providing insights that make the viewing experience more personalized and meaningful.
