A tragic head-on collision on Highway 50 near Lac Leamy resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man on Friday. The crash occurred shortly before noon when a vehicle reportedly lost control, crossed the median, and collided with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. Emergency services swiftly transported the injured driver to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The second driver involved in the accident sustained only minor injuries. In response to the incident, authorities closed the highway in that area for most of the afternoon to facilitate the investigation and ensure public safety.
Investigation Underway
The Sûreté du Québec is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities aim to gather more information about the events leading up to the collision and assess any contributing factors.
As the inquiry unfolds, the community mourns the loss of the man who died in the accident, highlighting the ongoing concerns regarding road safety. With highways often crowded, incidents like these serve as a grim reminder of the dangers that can arise on the road.
Motorists are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety regulations to prevent further tragedies. The highway closure disrupted traffic for several hours, prompting detours as officials worked at the scene.
The investigation will likely take time, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available. For now, the focus remains on understanding the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event.
