Alberta Health Services Collects Over 1,200 Toys for Children
Alberta Health Services (AHS) concluded its eighth annual **Toys for Tickets** campaign on **December 19, 2023**, successfully collecting **1,218 new and unwrapped toys**. These donations will be distributed to hospital foundations, community partners, and local charities, directly benefiting children in need during the holiday season.
The initiative, which began in **2018**, allows individuals who receive parking tickets while visiting AHS services to opt for donating a toy instead of paying a fine. The program runs from the end of November until a week before Christmas, providing a festive alternative that encourages community spirit.
Nick Ternovatsky, the Director of Parking Services at Health Shared Services, expressed his appreciation for the generosity shown by the community. He stated, “It’s inspiring to see how people across Alberta show up for kids.” Ternovatsky emphasized the impact of each donation: “Each toy represents someone choosing to give kindness and that generosity makes a real difference for families during the holidays.”
Community Engagement and Impact
The **Toys for Tickets** campaign has become a hallmark of community engagement in Alberta, reflecting a culture of giving. The program not only alleviates the burden of fines for drivers but also fosters a sense of responsibility towards local children and families. The collected toys are distributed through various channels, ensuring they reach those who need them the most.
The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many participants expressing their commitment to supporting this cause. The initiative has demonstrated that small acts of kindness can lead to significant contributions, particularly during the holiday season when many families face financial challenges.
As the campaign continues to grow, AHS aims to expand its outreach efforts to encourage even more participation in future years. The collaboration with local charities and organizations plays a crucial role in ensuring that the toys find their way to children who will benefit from them during the holidays.
The success of the **Toys for Tickets** campaign serves as a reminder of the power of community engagement and the impact individuals can make by choosing to give during festive periods. With each toy collected, Alberta Health Services not only fosters goodwill but also strengthens the bonds within the community, creating a more supportive environment for all.
