Boreal Saunas Launches Mobile Wellness Experience in Saskatchewan

A new venture in Northern Saskatchewan is redefining relaxation with the launch of Boreal Sauna Company, a provider of mobile, wood-fired saunas. Founded by Payton Hall and his wife McKenna Hall, the company aims to create a wellness sanctuary wherever it is needed, enhancing the outdoor experience for residents and visitors alike.
The couple, who previously lived in Elk Ridge for three and a half years, identified a gap in the market for affordable outdoor wellness options. “There was something missing in that area for outdoor events or experiences that were budget-friendly and laid back,” McKenna shared. This realization sparked the idea for Boreal Saunas, which has since expanded to serve clients throughout Northern Saskatchewan.
Mobile saunas provided by Boreal Saunas are designed for convenience. They can be easily delivered to various locations, including backyards, driveways, or even beaches. The saunas come equipped with enough firewood for the rental period and include a cold plunge bath to enhance the sauna experience. Recently, the City of Prince Albert approved the company’s use of Little Red Park for regular public sessions, expanding access to this unique wellness opportunity.
The health benefits of sauna use are well-documented. Research indicates that regular sauna sessions can lead to significant improvements in cardiovascular health, reduced stress levels, and better sleep quality. Payton noted, “We try not to be snake oil salesmen…but I can personally say as someone who has been using them regularly, the biggest thing I noticed is a major reduction in stress, less muscle soreness, and improved sleep.”
Studies from Finland suggest that men using saunas two to three times per week have a lower risk of mortality, with even greater benefits noted for those who sauna four to seven times weekly. This evidence has driven interest in sauna use as a simple yet effective method for improving overall wellbeing.
As demand for unique outdoor experiences grows, Boreal Saunas is tapping into a rising trend. “Many people that are thinking about purchasing a sauna for their cabin rent from us to see how they like it before making the financial commitment to buy their own,” McKenna explained.
The saunas can accommodate up to six people, though Payton humorously acknowledged that some visitors have pushed the limit. “We had a group of guys who rented that were from Finland and when we told them it was a six-person sauna, they laughed at us and said no way…that’s for eight people. You just gotta get cozier,” he recounted.
Boreal Saunas offers competitive pricing, with rentals available for $400 plus tax for both weekend (Friday to Sunday) and weekday (Monday to Thursday) sessions. Long-term rental options are also available, catering to individuals looking for extended sauna experiences.
The couple places a high priority on safety and professionalism in their business practices. They maintain comprehensive liability and property insurance and adhere strictly to local licensing guidelines. “We hold ourselves to a very high standard as far as conducting business in the safest and most professional way possible,” McKenna emphasized. They also navigate fire bans during summer months to ensure responsible operation.
As a Métis entrepreneur, McKenna plans to leverage various business development programs to further enhance Boreal Saunas’ offerings. While both she and Payton maintain careers in education, they are committed to expanding their sauna rental business and introducing new experiences to the community.
