Bruce Edward Humfrey Remembered for a Life of Farming and Family

The Humfrey family mourns the passing of Bruce Edward Humfrey, who died peacefully at the age of 74 on December 24, 2025, following a brief but intense battle with cancer. Bruce is survived by his devoted wife, Norma Humfrey, and his children, Clint and Christel Humfrey, Ginger Humfrey, and Clay and Amanda Humfrey, as well as numerous grandchildren.

Bruce was raised on a family farm in Mazeppa, Alberta, where he was the only son among four sisters. His upbringing was marked by a close relationship with his grandfather, who operated the local general store and post office. This unique environment allowed Bruce to learn valuable lessons in business from an early age. He fondly remembered trading gopher tails for candy and helping with mail delivery, which involved a daring approach as he unhooked mailbags from passing trains.

Bruce received his education at Gladys Ridge and High River, where he was an active member of the Gladys 4-H Beef Club and developed a passion for curling and horseback riding. His commitment to farming began at a young age, working alongside his father and uncle. After completing his studies in Agricultural Mechanics at Olds College, Bruce met his future wife, Norma Evenson, marrying her on May 6, 1972. Together, they embraced the challenges and joys of farm life.

The Humfrey family farm continues to thrive, now led by Bruce’s son, Clay, and grandson, Ryley. Bruce’s legacy extends beyond farming; he cultivated a wide range of interests. He played guitar, earned a pilot’s license, enjoyed boating at Little Bow, and spent winters in Arizona. His passion for learning was evident in his extensive reading, particularly about history, which shaped his perspectives on agriculture and politics.

Bruce was known for his quick mental calculations and keen sense of finding value in deals. He cherished visits from friends and neighbors at “the office,” where he would share stories and advice. In later years, he became a dedicated rodeo sponsor for his grandchildren, eagerly awaiting their updates on performances.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rockyview and High River Hospitals, as well as the Arthur Child Cancer Centre and Foothills Country Hospice, for their compassionate care during Bruce’s illness.

A funeral service will be held on January 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the High River Baptist Church.
