Canada’s Public Health Agency to Administer Vaccine Injury Program

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has announced it will take over the administration of the federal Vaccine Injury Support Program from the third-party company, Oxaro. This decision follows concerns regarding the oversight and operations of the program, which was initially launched in December 2020 to provide compensation for individuals who suffered injuries after receiving Health Canada-approved vaccines.
Questions about the program’s effectiveness prompted the federal health department to initiate an investigation into Oxaro. As part of this review, PHAC has been exploring alternative methods for delivering the program more effectively. The agency’s move to assume control reflects a commitment to ensure transparency and reliability in the management of vaccine-related injuries.
Health Minister Marjorie Michel confirmed that the funding agreement with Oxaro will conclude on March 31, 2026. Following this date, PHAC will fully oversee the program, simplifying the process for individuals seeking compensation. The minister’s office stated that further details regarding the transition and updated program structure will be released as they become available.
The Vaccine Injury Support Program was created in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to assist those who experienced adverse effects from vaccines. The program highlights the government’s dedication to public health and the importance of addressing vaccine-related concerns.
As the administration shifts to PHAC, stakeholders and citizens alike are watching closely. The transition aims to enhance the program’s integrity and responsiveness, ensuring that those affected receive the support they need. In a time of heightened scrutiny over vaccine safety and efficacy, the government’s actions are crucial in maintaining public trust.
Moving forward, PHAC will likely outline new protocols and guidelines to improve the program’s operation. As more information is disclosed, the agency’s ability to effectively manage the program will be key in addressing public health challenges and fostering confidence in vaccination efforts across the country.
