Diabetes Support Group to Focus on Legumes in Mendota Meeting
A diabetes support group is scheduled to convene on January 8, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the OSF Saint Paul Medical Center in Mendota. The session, titled the “Get Back on Track Diabetes Support Group,” aims to provide resources and community support for individuals managing diabetes or seeking preventive measures.
The group will be facilitated by Susan Glassman, a food and nutrition educator from the University of Illinois Extension, alongside Jennifer Scully, a clinical dietitian affiliated with OSF HealthCare. This month’s focus will be on “Powering Up with Legumes,” highlighting the inclusion of beans and lentils in diabetes-friendly meal plans. Attendees can expect a hands-on experience with recipe tastings and the opportunity to sample diabetes-friendly snacks.
Supporting Diabetes Management in the Community
The “Get Back on Track Diabetes Support Group” serves as a vital resource for individuals working to manage their diabetes, prevent its onset, or support those who have the condition. The environment encourages sharing experiences, providing encouragement, and learning about effective dietary practices.
The meeting will take place in Conference Room C, located at 1401 E. 12th St. in Mendota. Interested participants can register online at go.illinois.edu/diabetessupport or by contacting the University of Illinois Extension at 815-224-0894. For those requiring accommodations, Glassman can be reached directly at [email protected] or 815-224-0889.
This gathering not only promotes nutritional education but also fosters a sense of community among participants, allowing individuals to connect and share valuable insights into living with diabetes.
