Winnipeg’s fitness landscape is thriving, with local studios offering more than just workouts. These spaces foster empowerment, connection, and personal transformation, allowing residents to engage in fitness that transcends mere exercise. Highlighted here are four notable fitness studios making a significant impact on the community.

The Gang Fitness: A Unique Approach to Training

At The Gang Fitness, traditional gym experiences are redefined. Founded by Johanna Chambers in September 2024, this studio emphasizes structured training programs over casual drop-in classes. Participants join a 14-week program designed to build camaraderie and personal growth among members.

Chambers, who has over a decade of coaching experience, explains her philosophy: “It’s sort of like personal training, but on a team instead of by yourself. You build such a deep connection with the people you’re training with, and you all make progress together.” She emphasizes the importance of self-belief, stating, “Training is about showing yourself what you’re capable of.” The Gang Fitness welcomes women and non-binary individuals of all ages and body types, aiming to foster confidence and community through fitness.

The Vault Cycle Club: Celebrating Community Through Cycling

Opened in 2018 and recently rebranded, The Vault Cycle Club has become a vibrant hub for cycling enthusiasts. Founder Taylor Renaud describes the studio as a place where “everything is designed to make you feel seen and supported.” The studio focuses on creating an environment where riders feel they are part of something greater.

The Vault offers dynamic cycling classes complemented by community events, such as Vault on the Water and outdoor rides at True North Square. Renaud states, “Our riders are the reason we exist. Their energy and presence shape everything we do.” Newcomers are encouraged to try intro packages designed to ease them into the community atmosphere.

Awesome Hot Yoga: Bridging Athleticism and Spirituality

Awesome Hot Yoga was established in 2015 by Marc Amphavannasouk and his mother, Vonne Bannavong, with the intention of merging physical fitness with spiritual wellness. Their studio, located at the intersection of Stafford and Pembina, features a hot yoga room accommodating up to 60 participants.

Marc notes that their most popular class, Core Flow, combines elements of fitness with yoga, set to contemporary music. The studio promotes inclusivity, encouraging individuals of all backgrounds to explore the benefits of hot yoga. “It’s about showing up for yourself, breathing through the challenge, and discovering what your body can do,” Marc explains.

They currently offer an introductory month for $60 and a 20-class pass promotion valid until October 28, 2023. More information can be found at awesomehotyoga.ca or on Instagram @awesomehotyoga.

The Fitual: Movement Meets Mindfulness

Founded by Chalnessa Eames in 2019, The Fitual is a dynamic studio located on Corydon Avenue that focuses on holistic wellness. Eames, a former professional dancer, integrates artistry into her classes, which emphasize both physical strength and mental well-being.

The studio offers popular sessions like The Fitual, a dance-inspired workout, and The Mega Fitual, which utilizes the Lagree Method for a low-impact, high-intensity experience. Eames aims to create an environment where individuals feel connected and supported, stating, “We want people to move with intention and leave each class feeling connected.”

This November, The Fitual will expand with The Fitual 2.0, providing more space and new offerings to accommodate a growing community. For updates, check out thefitual.com or follow them on Instagram @thefitual.

Winnipeg’s fitness community exemplifies the idea that movement is not solely about achieving physical goals. These studios highlight the importance of connection, support, and personal growth. As the local fitness scene continues to flourish, residents are encouraged to explore these welcoming spaces and embrace their fitness journeys.
