Expert Offers Insights on Teen Stress and Anxiety During Webinar

The GPS Parent Series is hosting a webinar titled “Untangling Teen Challenges Today: The Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety” featuring clinical psychologist and author Lisa Damour. This event will take place on October 30, 2023, at both noon and 19:00 (7 p.m.) via Zoom. Attendees can find further details and links to join the webinars at GPSParentSeries.org.
Dr. Damour returns to the GPS Parent Series to provide insights into the complexities of adolescent development. With her extensive background, she will discuss the typical challenges faced by teens and identify when parents should be concerned. By integrating her decades of clinical experience and the latest research findings, Damour aims to illuminate the various developmental stages that help shape youth into confident adults.
Participants can expect to gain valuable strategies for effectively communicating with their teenagers. Damour will address pressing issues such as concerning behaviors, substance misuse, the influence of social media, and the navigation of friendships. Her approach offers a flexible framework designed to foster the kind of relationships adolescents need to thrive.
Drawing from her acclaimed works, including “The Emotional Lives of Teenagers” and “Under Pressure,” Damour will also discuss her updated edition of “Untangled: Guiding Teens Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood.” She will be joined in conversation by Jennifer Wallace, an award-winning journalist with contributions to The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. Wallace has a notable journalism background, including her tenure at CBS’ “60 Minutes” and her current role as a journalism fellow at the Center for Parent and Teen Communication at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
The webinars are open to all and free of charge, with no registration necessary. Individuals interested in receiving reminders for future events can reach out to Gilda Ross, the Student and Community Projects Coordinator at Glenbard District 87, via email at [email protected] or by phone at 630-942-7668. Continuing education credits will be available for participants.
This event promises to be an invaluable resource for parents and caregivers seeking to better understand and support their teenagers in navigating the pressures of modern life.
