Jody Wilson-Raybould Begins Breast Cancer Treatment After Surgery
Former federal politician and Indigenous activist Jody Wilson-Raybould has announced that she is commencing treatment for breast cancer following a recent surgery. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Wilson-Raybould expressed gratitude for the support she has received throughout her journey and acknowledged the care provided by her medical team.
In her post, Wilson-Raybould stated, “While this is scary and unsettling, I take strength from the many of you who have shared your stories of resilience and healing with me over the years. I am also so grateful to my surgeons and B.C. Cancer Agency for their wonderful care.” Her message highlights both the personal challenges she faces and her commitment to raise awareness about cancer screenings.
Wilson-Raybould, a lawyer by profession, first entered federal politics as a member of the Liberal Party, representing Vancouver Granville after her election in 2015. She served as Attorney General under Justin Trudeau’s administration but left the cabinet in 2019 due to a high-profile conflict related to the SNC-Lavalin affair. She subsequently won a second term as an independent candidate but chose not to run in the 2021 election.
Since her departure from politics, Wilson-Raybould has focused on writing, having authored or co-authored four books. Currently, she is working on a new book about leadership, collaborating with Victoria-based lawyer Roshan Danesh. She encourages others to prioritize their health, urging individuals to undergo regular mammograms and screenings for other cancers and illnesses.
The news of her treatment has resonated widely, with many supporters and fellow public figures expressing their solidarity. As Wilson-Raybould embarks on this new chapter in her life, her message serves as a reminder of the importance of community support in the face of health challenges.
For more information about breast cancer awareness and resources, individuals are encouraged to consult local health organizations and advocacy groups. Wilson-Raybould’s journey will likely inspire many to take proactive steps in monitoring their health.
